For some, it may feel like the COVID-19 pandemic is finally coming to a close. For others, fears of a second wave are on the forefront of their minds. These past few weeks we've seen children go back to school and had new information presented by the CDC. It seems that while everything remains unknown, the roller coaster that is COVID-19 is not done with us yet.

We have been all-too-willing to regain some semblance of normalcy, but doing so may find us in some trouble all over again...

Performance reviews are commonly surrounded by feelings of dread by all parties. As a manager, it's never comfortable to point out the shortcomings of an employee. And, as an employee, it's not easy to hear about areas you may have for improvement. Conversely, some individuals even get uncomfortable when being praised and complimented. These issues aside, performance reviews are vital for the success of a company and the growth and development of their employees.

You may not be able to change...

With the school year rapidly approaching and extreme uncertainty surrounding this school year, parents, children, teachers, and businesses are all on edge, and for good reason. The second half of last year's school year was a complete and utter disaster. Parents were forced to make arrangements for their children to remain home, they were forced to be their students' teachers without any guidance, and this upcoming school year is looking to be no different. Employers and employees are facing more and more...

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Turning Point HCM has remained huge supporters of adaptability and flexibility in the business model. It became quite clear early on that in order to get through these challenging times, we needed to embrace change. On the business side of things, change came in many different shapes and sizes.

One area in which we saw those changes was the recruiting process. Many of the previously effective methods to recruiting are now no longer feasible. The need for flexibil...

It’s no secret that business models have changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s also no secret that people have changed because of the pandemic. There is a new level of fear that has come with the rapid and extensive widespread reach of the virus. In the beginning, employees feared losing their jobs, employers feared losing their businesses, everybody feared getting sick. Unfortunately, all of the above did happen for many people and businesses. Now, we are in the phases of “reopening” and trying t...

Social distancing guidelines have pushed remote work into the mainstream. If this is your first time working from home, you probably have mixed feelings about all of it. For some people, remote work is a dream come true; for others, it’s something of a night...

It is rare to find someone who LOVES recruiting. Many HR professionals understand that it is part of their job, and they may be great at it, but that doesn’t mean they have to like it.

If you are a business owner with a small, or non-existent HR department, and you handle those tasks on your own, you probably HATE recruiting. It’s time consuming and pulls you away from other areas of your business that you are more suited for. It’s repetitive, seeing what may feel like the same resume over and over again....

It is starting to feel like old news now, but the state of the business world has completely changed. We can’t stress this enough - the business plans and strategies for 2020 have been thrown out the window and we are left to figure out how to be successful in this new world. While some of us may be finding our place in this new environment, others are still feeling the painful effects of COVID-19. Many businesses will be going through phases of restructuring their workforce. Your departments may look dif...

The importance of having a strong and knowledgeable HR department has never been more evident. As businesses are beginning to re-open, and we all try to regain some semblance of normalcy, much of the burden in reopening is going to fall on the shoulders of your HR team. There is an avalanche of new policies and procedures to be aware of, changes in employee count, hours, safety guidelines, exemptions, and new compliance issues that could arise.
